Coach Tim

Tim Martin is a military veteran with over 27 years of service.  Tim has been studying the martial arts and various self defense methods since his childhood.

img_14411.jpgTim’s training in the martial arts began over 30 years ago while growing up in rural Georgia. In his teenage years he earned a Dan ranking in the international style of Tae Kwon-Do. Following his enlistment into the US Army in 1990, Tim continued to pursue his passion for training in the martial arts whenever and wherever possible. His martial arts experience has included instructor rankings in Genbukan Ninpo Taijutsu and Pukulan Pentjak Silat Serak. Additionally, Tim has studied the Russian Martial Art of Systema, Okinawan Karate, Filipino Martial Arts and Jun Fan Gung Fu through the lineage of Guro Dan Inosanto, and the Francis Fong – Jiu Wan lineage of Wing Chun while attending college near his hometown.

He began his jiu jitsu journey in 2007 at the Gracie Academy in Torrance, CA, and since that time has trained with many members of the Gracie and Machado families to further his understanding of jiu jitsu.  Today, Tim trains out of Master Pedro Sauer’s academy, One Spirit Martial Arts, and makes the occasional visit to Florida to train with his first mentor, instructor, and Gracie Academy Black Belt, Ricardo Bayona, of Miloki Flow Key Biscayne.

In 2018 Tim finished his military career as an Assistant Professor in the Joint Command, Control, and Information Operations School at the Joint Forces Staff College of the National Defense University in Norfolk, VAHe was commissioned through the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps in 1995 as a Distinguished Military Graduate.  He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Political Science and a Master of Science Degree in Information Assurance.  He completed over 27 years of US Army service with Military Intelligence and Information Operations assignments ranging from the company to Army staff level.  He deployed in support of Operation IRAQI FREEDOM in 2003 with the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) and again in 2009 with the 1st Cavalry Division.

Tim’s passion for the martial arts extends to sharing his training and experiences with others. It is his belief that the martial arts are a valuable vehicle for improving and developing oneself to reach their maximum potential. He sees it as a powerful, life-changing gift for all ages to teach empowerment, confidence, self defense, and overcoming adversity.
